Violist and native Vermonter, Tatiana Trono has been fortunate enough to follow her dream of bringing music to the world as a performer and also as an educator. She made her solo debut with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra at the age of 17, and was heard statewide and beyond after playing on Vermont Public Radio. Ms. Trono has performed throughout North America and England in various concert halls such as Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, Snape Maltings, and the Koussevitsky Music Shed.
In 2022, Tatiana joined both the Santa Rosa Symphony and the California Symphony as a new section member. Before that, Ms. Trono was appointed Assistant Principal Viola in the Oakland Symphony. Recent performance engagements include the Oregon Symphony, California Symphony, Oakland Symphony, Marin Symphony, One Found Sound, and the San Francisco Academy Orchestra. Her previous orchestra appearances include the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, Britten-Pears Orchestra, Middlebury Opera, Burlington Chamber Orchestra, Dartmouth Symphony and the Me/2 Orchestra.
Not only does Ms. Trono feel at home on a stage, but she also enjoys sharing both solo and chamber music through community engagements. Starring in the inaugural concert of Vermont Virtuosi, Tatiana debuted a new trio for flute, viola and piano by Vermont composer David Gunn. With her passion for new music, she has worked closely with with Mr. Gunn for years, commissioning a piece for her string quartet TM2D and most currently a new piece for solo viola aptly named, "O Solo Violo."
In an orchestra and chamber music setting, Tatiana has had the privilege of working and performing with renowned musicians Yo-Yo Ma, Emanuel Ax, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Leon Fleisher, Midori, Gil Shaham, Trey Anastasio, Desmond Hoebig, James Dunham and Livingston Taylor. During the summers, Tatiana has collaborated with other musicians at the Tanglewood Music Center, Heifetz Institute, Aspen Music Festival, Britten-Pears Orchestra, Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival and the National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute. Over the years, she has performed with conductors Marin Alsop, Kurt Masur, Christoph Eschenbach, Jaap Van Zweden, and Christoph von Dohnanyi.
Ms. Trono received her Bachelor’s Degree with Victoria Chiang at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore and her Master of Music Degree with Ivo-Jan van der Werff at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in Houston. As a dedicated violin & viola educator, Tatiana holds the position of Strings Department Head at Myriad Music School in San Mateo and is also in charge of a private music studio that continues to grow. She is a registered Suzuki teacher and has completed Suzuki teacher training Units 1-3 with Suzuki pedagogues Ed Sprunger, Judy Bossuat-Gallic, David Strom and most recently Ed Kreitman. Interests outside of music include hiking, cooking and studying canine body language. She also volunteers at Rocket Dog Rescue in Oakland, and is a registered Wag Walker.
